Victor Aboyans, MD, PhD, FAHA, FESC

After his years of medical school at the University of Nice, Victor Aboyans has been graduated (MD) as cardiologist and vascular physician at the Limoges University in 1996. He obtained a PhD degree in Public Health after a thesis on peripheral artery disease (PAD) epidemiology. He prolonged his research work at the University of California, San Diego (2005-2006), under the mentorship of Pr. Michael Criqui. He has been nominated as Full-Professor in Cardiology in 2011 and is the head of the Department of Cardiology at Limoges University Hospital since 2012. His clinical research is mostly oriented to the management of patients with PAD or polyvascular disease, and risk stratification through cardiac and vascular ultrasound markers. He authored more than 350 pubmed-referenced papers. He is currently a senior member of an INSERM-labelled research team oriented in the epidemiology in tropical countries. He chaired the AHA scientific statements on the Ankle-Brachial Index in 2012, the 2011 and 2017 ESC guidelines on PAD and the 2014 ESC guidelines on Aorta diseases. He chaired (2018-2020) the ESC working group of Aorta & Peripheral Vascular Diseases. He is the current scientific secretary of the French Society of Cardiology, andan elected board member of the ESC as Councillor
